Brian O'Sullivan

Brian O'Sullivan is currently a Fellow at the Institute of Historical Research, University of London. From 2016 he was a Visiting Research Fellow at King's College, University of London. Before retiring from his professional career in June 2020, he held senior roles in a number of financial institutions. His book 'From Crisis to Crisis: The Transformation of Merchant Banking, 1914-1939' was published in 2018. It was jointly awarded the BAC Wadsworth Prize for its outstanding contribution to British business history. His second book, 'Reflecting Imperial Overstretch and New Realities: The British Trade Corporation, 1917-1926', was published in 2024. It is the first comprehensive study of this important financial institution, which has been largely neglected by historians. His third book is about Britain's involvement in the Chilean nitrate industry during the period 1879-1933. It is due to be published in 2026. Brian has a PhD in history, and is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants and of the Royal Historical Society.
