Mark Donnelly

Mark Donnelly, PhD., is an accomplished author, artist, and educator whose

life and work are deeply rooted in Western New York. A passionate advocate

for the region’s waterfront, he brings history, culture, and community

together through both words and images. Beyond his former professional

accomplishments as a college professor, branding consultant, and newspaper

publisher, he is a proud husband, father of four remarkable adult children, a

committed Mason, and, true to form, rarely without his camera in hand.

The author of over 50 published books, Dr. Donnelly has chronicled the

spirit and resilience of Buffalo and the Niagara Frontier in works such as

The Fine Art of Capturing Buffalo, Frozen Assets, Statuesque Buffalo,

There’s So Much To Love, Shovel Ready City, Celebrating Buffalo’s

Waterfront, and A City Built by Giants. His creativity also extends to

children’s literature and whimsical novelty cookbooks, reflecting his wide ranging

curiosity and sense of play.

An award-winning photographer, his images have been featured in regional

and national exhibitions, with showings at the Albright-Knox Art Gallery,

Burchfield Penney Art Center, Rodman Arts Centre, CEPA Gallery, The

NACC, Big Orbit Gallery, Seattle Art Museum, ZGM Gallery, and the Art

Gallery of Hamilton. Whether through prose or photography, Dr. Donnelly

continues to celebrate the stories, landscapes, and communities that make

Western New York unique.
