Z D Martillo

Z.D. Martillo pens introspective memoir, poetry, photography books, personal essays, and stream-of-consciousness contemporary fiction that dissects the beautiful mess of being human—those raw, unfiltered glimpses into joy, grief, and absurdities that make us tick. By day, he's a neurodivergent special educator in Southern California. Martillo self-published his debut photobook Unattached in December 2025—a visual memoir of detachment and discovery—and is hammering out memoir-fueled fiction blurring lived truth with imagined escape. Published online for poetry in literary corners, his work blooms where logic fears to tread, like his garden's rebellious flowers defying seed packets. When not teaching or writing late (caffeine optional, sarcasm required), he rewatches films for nuances, tends unpredictable petals, and shares chaos with Maltipoo Beatrix and shadow cats Brandy and Blanche.
