Konrad van Staden

Konrad van Staden is a Clinical Psychologist and Jungian Analyst based in Kini Bay on the Eastern Cape coast of South Africa. Registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa and a member of the International Association for Analytical Psychology and the Southern African Association of Jungian Analysts, he specialises in the psychology of obesity, weight loss, and bariatric care, as well as the psychology of high-performance sport.

He is the author of the Psychology of Weight Loss Series, fifteen books exploring the emotional and unconscious life behind eating, weight, and the changing body, including After Ozempic, Food Noise, Phantom Fat, and Loose Skin, Loose Identity, anchored by his memoir-manifesto My Fat Head. His work introduces original clinical concepts including the Fat Head Phenomenon, Phantom Fat Syndrome, and the four Unconscious Contracts, drawing together analytical psychology, attachment theory, and contemporary neuroscience.

Konrad speaks internationally on the psychological dimensions of weight loss and the GLP-1 era, addressing medical, corporate, and public audiences. He lives and writes where the fynbos meets the sea.
