George Coltharp Jr.

Coach George Coltharp is a veteran football coach, athletic administrator, educator, and author with more than two decades of experience in secondary and collegiate athletics. Based in North Carolina, he has served multiple tenures as a high school head football coach, worked as a collegiate offensive coordinator, and held leadership roles as both a high school Athletic Director and Assistant Principal—giving him a comprehensive perspective on coaching, leadership, and program management.

A former collegiate offensive lineman at Appalachian State University, Coach Coltharp combines practical on-field experience with educational leadership and organizational design. He holds an Educational Specialist degree from Liberty University, where his advanced studies focused on instructional design and leadership development. This training directly informs his work in creating structured teaching frameworks for new coaches and clear development pathways for coaches seeking to advance into coordinator, head coaching, and athletic administration roles.

Since 2019, Coach Coltharp has created digital coaching content, building a niche football education channel that has grown to more than 10,000 subscribers. His work in the digital space emphasizes practical coaching solutions, long-term development, and professional growth within the realities of high school athletics.

He is the founder of The Varsity Edge, a modern coach-development platform focused on coaching growth, leadership clarity, and intentional career progression. Through books, digital courses, toolkits, and ongoing educational content, The Varsity Edge is designed to help coaches move purposefully up the coaching ladder while building sustainable programs.

Coach Coltharp is also the author of The Effective High School Air Raid Offense and Mastering Off-Season Football, and has developed numerous coaching courses distributed through CoachTube.

In addition, he is developing Coltharp Connect, a personal content platform focused on coaching growth, leadership perspective, and finding balance beyond the profession through football, travel, golf, and food.
