I was a cop based in London for over 30 years. I started policing as a patrol officer in the urban decay of the 1980s. One of my first days was responding to the Brixton riots of 1981. I saw at first hand how deprivation drove crime and drugs dependency. I also saw the impact of drugs dealing and the fatal consequences of conflict between dealers.
I was a firearms officer, worked in counter terrorism and became senior, working closely with local and national politicians.
Dead Territory is my first novel. It is a prequel to the Harpur and Iles series written by my late father, Bill James. The story uses characters from the series and is built on my experiences in policing. The book has a compelling story line, with strong characters and a strong sense of time and place.
