Marcella White Campbell is the author of Maya’s Journey: A Story of Two Great-Grandmothers. This debut picture book grew out of twenty-five years of genealogical research that began with a question about her grandmother’s lost lineage and eventually traced her family back to one of their first enslaved ancestors—and, later, to her husband’s Romanian great-grandmother.
A third-generation San Franciscan, she has spent her life writing about things that fascinate her: global Jewish history, collard greens, 18th-century London, niche perfumes, and soul music. She has written more than a million words of fiction set in worlds she built and still visits. Her award-winning essays have appeared in Lilith, Kveller, and The Forward.
