Salvatore Conti is the pen name used for the Conversations with the Stoics series. The name represents the contemporary voice within the conversations: a modern questioner engaging with the ideas of Marcus Aurelius, Seneca, Epictetus and other Stoic thinkers. These conversations are created with the assistance of artificial intelligence, using the surviving writings, teachings and philosophical traditions of the Stoics as their foundation. They are not presented as historical transcripts, but as imagined conversations designed to explore how Stoic philosophy might speak to the challenges of modern life.
Behind Salvatore Conti is Alfredo Conetta, a British author, strategist and former Army officer whose work draws together philosophy, leadership, strategy and the realities of human decision-making. Following a 27-year military career as both a soldier and officer, Alfredo moved into senior roles within technology, intelligence and professional consultancy. His professional experience has included working in complex, high-pressure environments where judgement, resilience, leadership and clarity of thought matter.
His interest in Stoicism grew from the practical rather than purely academic value of the philosophy: how ancient ideas about character, responsibility, adversity, purpose and self-command can be applied to the situations people face today. Through the Conversations with the Stoics series, he seeks to make those ideas accessible by replacing the traditional commentary format with something more immediate, a conversation.
Alfredo is also the founder of Toler8, an award winning independent publishing company focused on ideas concerning philosophy, leadership, strategy, growth, complexity and the human condition. Through its publishing work, Toler8 aims to take enduring ideas and make them useful, readable and relevant to a modern audience. His mission to bring Stoicism to the next generation has been embodied in his Teen translation of both Marcus Aurelius' Meditations and the works of Epictetus.
The Conversations with the Stoics series includes conversations with figures such as Marcus Aurelius, Seneca and Epictetus, exploring timeless questions through a contemporary lens: how we deal with adversity, how we lead, what we can control, how we find purpose, how we respond to uncertainty, and ultimately how we might live well in an increasingly complex world.
