Ángela González, better known as Lala, was born in Medellín, Colombia, where she currently lives and works. From a young age, Lala displayed a particular love for painting and illustration. For her, Colombia has always been an endless source of inspiration; the richness of its culture, folklore, landscapes, and flowers is reflected in her work, making her country a true paradise of wonders.
Lala studied graphic design, and since 1994, she has tirelessly worked as an illustrator and artist, consolidating her NAIF style, where she captures her reality with magic and color, creating scenarios that seem to emerge from fairy tales. In her creative world, metaphors and everyday life intertwine, bringing to life dreamlike characters that arise from a surreal universe.
For Lala, it is essential that a true artist is recognized for their unique and original style, an unmistakable mark that sets them apart. A naïve artist paints with the innocence and spontaneity of a child, exploring without limits, where no color combinations are impossible and where no characters or places are beyond the reach of their imagination. Her works are part of private collections in countries such as Germany, the United States, Spain, Mexico, Russia, and, of course, Colombia. “Illustrating fills me with life and happiness,” she asserts.
Throughout her career, Lala has connected with various entities and foundations, donating part of her earnings from the sale of her artworks, creating illustrations for commercialization, and offering painting workshops for underprivileged children. Among the organizations she supports are La Casa de la Chinca, Fundación Colombianitos, Mi Sangre, Museo de Antioquia, Andecol, and El Hogar Mi Casa de las Hermanitas de los Pobres. She firmly believes that art can change and transform lives, creating a space of hope filled with colors. It is a great opportunity to foster generosity and sensitivity.
Illustration is not just about technique or tools; it is also about emotion, feelings, creativity, imagination, passion, research, and knowledge. According to Manuel Urbano (a Spanish poet and literary critic), “Naïve Art possesses the energy of someone endowed with a profound personality, innate talent, and a special imaginative faculty. Thus, the final result of their works will undoubtedly be a spontaneous act, free from external influences and brimming with a sense of wonder. Their world, let’s say it at once, is that of original human hope, that of utopia, and that of recondite truth without borders or ages. That is why the greatness of the gaze that faces the sun vibrates within it."
