J.L. Taylor is a writer, a mediocre ultramarathon runner, a not so good guitar player, and longtime storyteller whose work blends humor, heart, and a deep sense of place. He is the author of the He’s Out There Mt. Baker Bigfoot trilogy as well as a forthcoming memoir capturing the chaos, music, and misadventures of growing up in the 1970s and 1980s.
A senior program manager in customer experience and a lifelong observer of human behavior, J.L. brings a grounded, cinematic style to both his fiction and nonfiction. His writing is shaped by the things he loves most: Pacific Northwest forests, music, pop culture, long runs that get out of hand, and the strange ways people cope with fear, hope, and the past.
J.L. and his wife, Michelle — whose steady encouragement has helped him navigate the choppy waters of self-publishing — share a blended family of six children. His daughters, Maddy, Jossy, and Katelyn, regularly remind him what really matters and push him to be a better human. He also serves as an assistant softball coach for their team, happily throwing batting practice and hoping to avoid Tommy John surgery.
He lives in the Bonney Lake area with his wife and Colt the chocolate lab, a TikTok-famous dog who has more followers than he does.
