Heather Kenyon Casey, PhD, is Professor of Literacy Education at Rider University in Lawrenceville, New Jersey, where she teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in literacy and coordinates the graduate-level literacy concentration. Heather is a former middle school language arts teacher and is a certified reading specialist, English educator, elementary educator and supervisor. Heather is past cochair of the Adolescent Literacy Task Force and the Literacy Reform Task Force of the International Literacy Association (ILA). Heather's research focuses on the use of collaborative learning structures and new literacies to support adolescent literacy development and the intersection of school and community literacy practices. She has published books, articles, and book chapters on these topics and has also led grants focusing on building community and teacher leadership. Heather is the recipient of the Dominick A. Iorio Faculty Research Prize from Rider University
