Dean Wallis is the author of Hodgson F.C.: Rise of the Misfits, writing as D. S. Wallis.
A maths teacher turned novelist, Dean Wallis writes stories about underdogs, courage and teamwork - themes shaped by his fifteen years as a teacher and five years coaching young players.
Dean was saying goodbye at the school where he taught when one student asked, "What will you do next, Mr Wallis?"
"Maybe I will write a book," he said.
"Impossible," the student shot back. "You cannot even spell!"
It was true. As a maths teacher, Mr Wallis was known for his illegible scribbles and creative spellings. But Dean made that statement deliberately, as a parting message that we can do anything in life - it is a choice, followed by hard work. And hard work it was, as Dean spent the next five years writing, polishing and eventually publishing his debut novel, Hodgson F.C.: Rise of the Misfits.
Now based in Switzerland, Dean champions the belief that kids learn best in an environment of love, respect and encouragement - a philosophy at the heart of his stories.
