Janet Herbert-Verhaar

Born and raised on a farm in Winnebago, just a few miles from Rockford, Illinois, the home of the Sock Monkey, the author opens this book by telling the reader she “never had a sock monkey while growing up”. She knew they were made from what were called farmer socks in her home. They were not, however, thought of during her 34 year career as the owner of a small marketing and advertising agency. Just before retirement, she finds one at a garage which starts her on the road to “Sock Monkey Rescue”. Meet the monkeys she found, discover their personalities, and enjoy the clothing she has chosen to help make them happy little monkeys in her home in nearby Rockton, Illinois. The rescues continue as she develops a version of her sock monkey family story to help younger generations appreciate the toy.
