Marcel Bogers

Marcel Bogers is a Full Professor of Open and Collaborative Innovation at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) and a Research Fellow at the Haas School of Business, University of California, Berkeley. His research examines how organizations design, organize, and govern collaboration in innovation processes, with a particular focus on open innovation, business models, and innovation ecosystems. His work spans multiple levels of analysis, ranging from micro-level practices and organizational arrangements to ecosystem-level dynamics and policy implications.

He has published extensively in leading journals in innovation and management, including Research Policy, Journal of Product Innovation Management, Journal of Management, and California Management Review. His research has been widely cited and has contributed to shaping contemporary debates on open innovation, ecosystems, and the societal role of innovation. Alongside his academic contributions, he actively engages with industry, policymakers, and academic communities worldwide, combining rigorous scholarship with a strong orientation toward relevance and impact.

Marcel Bogers holds a MSc degree (with distinction) in Technology and Society from TU/e. In 2009, he obtained his PhD in Management of Technology from the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) in Switzerland. He then took a postdoctoral position at the Mads Clausen Institute at the University of Southern Denmark, where he became an Associate Professor in 2012. He moved to the University of Copenhagen in 2015, where he became a Full Professor in 2017. Since 2020, he has been a Full Professor of Open and Collaborative Innovation at the Department of Industrial Engineering & Innovation Sciences at TU/e. As an affiliated appointment, he has been a Research Fellow at the Institute for Business Innovation at the Haas School of Business at the University of California, Berkeley since 2019.
