As a teenage cancer survivor, my journey shaped how I see the world. I consider myself lucky to have faced such a challenge so young—it gave my life purpose. While writing and illustrating You CancerVive, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. Here we go again. But this book arrived at the perfect time. As I recovered, I spent my days editing, drawing, rewriting, learning, and publishing. This project saved my life—mentally and physically. Whenever fear appears, I think about my “Kristoon,” and she gives me strength.
After finishing my first book, I returned to stories I wrote for my son when he was little and decided to create a legacy he could hold onto. My doctors told me to “remain dormant” during treatment, which was impossible for my ADHD brain, so I poured my energy into creating children’s books for him and, hopefully, my future grandchildren. I just had my last surgery on my birthday and hope this chapter is finally over. My goal now is simple: to bring joy, laughter, and remind people that life should be FUN.
