Simonetta Corsolini

Simonetta Corsolini is a researcher at the University of Siena, where she teaches Ecotoxicology of Remote Regions and Marine Ecology. Throughout her career, her research has focused on the fate of anthropogenic persistent organic pollutants (POPs) (including legacy and emerging chemicals listed by the Stockholm Convention) to assess contamination and provide data for environmental risks. She specifically investigates contaminants in Arctic and Antarctic Regions, also evaluating their impacts on wildlife. Furthermore, her recent studies explore the impact of climate change on distribution and temporal trends of pollutants.

At the international level, she chairs the ImPACT Expert Group of the Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research (SCAR) and contributes to the Arctic Monitoring and Assessment Programme. Her field experience includes 13 polar expeditions for studying the contamination of marine environments and animals (e.g. penguins and seabirds in Antarctica, Greenland shark in the Arctic). With over 80 indexed scientific papers and thousands of citations, her research provides useful information for management, monitoring, and surveillance of Antarctic and Arctic Regions.
