Tony Ferguson

Tony Ferguson began writing to keep a promise. As a young man, he listened to his grandfather’s stories of war and upheaval in Ireland and promised that one day the truth of that life would be honoured properly. Decades later, after a forty-year international career in technology and management, he returned to the archives, the family papers and the public record to do exactly that.

A historian of modern Irish war history, Tony’s research-led narrative work traces the years from the Somme through the Irish War of Independence and Civil War, following the lived experience of one Tyrone man across extraordinary times. Drawing on documented sources and careful contextual analysis, his writing restores proportion, complexity and humanity to events too often simplified.

Tony was born in County Tyrone and now lives in England. He continues to research, write and speak on modern Irish conflict, memory and consequence.
