Luxcutus Umbra

Luxcutus Umbra is the pen name of Gary Karim Martin of London, Ontario Canada. He is the author of the DEUS MODUS novel series. Utilizing a prose best described as a third-person/nonfiction-adjacent narrative, Martin chronicles historically-verified real-world experiments that preceded current Artificial Intelligence development.

As the son of a Vietnam US army veteran turned Black civil rights activist and the grandson of a Canadian WWII veteran, Martin developed a uniquely contrasting bird's-eye view of the structures of modern society. Furthermore, Martin has published news articles for Vice Media Canada, investigating legal and cultural differences between the U.S. Department of Corrections and the Correctional Service of Canada from 2011 thru 2015.

Combined with an inquisitive nature that is self-described as an 'addiction to knowledge itself', he considers almost all of his published works as a communal project made only possible through exhaustive scientific research from many experts.

He is the great-nephew of blues legend Hubert Sumlin (Howlin' Wolf) and the late great Joe Hunter (the Funk Brothers). He has five children and three stepchildren. He has a professional background that involves thermal and fluid dynamics.
