Dr. Devaki Lindsey Berkson

Where Audacity Meets Science

Dr. Devaki Lindsey Berkson is called audacious and tenacious—and for good reason. Just reading her track record might make you tired enough to reach for an espresso.

As a Distinguished Hormone Scholar from the highly praised Center for Bioenvironmental Research at Tulane and Xavier Universities, Dr. Berkson worked with pioneering scientists who discovered the first hormone receptors. Her breakthrough book, Hormone Deception (McGraw-Hill 2002, Awakened Medicine Press 2016), earned her this prestigious invitation, as she exposed the public health emergency of environmental toxins assaulting our hormones and provided the original guidelines for reducing exposure.

Her impact on medical literature continues to grow. Dr. Berkson’s book Healthy Digestion the Natural Way (Wiley & Sons, 2000) was the first gut, nutrition, and mindfulness book to sell over 1 million copies. Her work Sexy Brain (Awakened Medicine Press 2017) further explored endocrine disruption and gender-bending, while her latest book, Oxytocin Medicine, reveals how the “hormone of connection, empathy and calm” is under attack—and what we can do about it.

Scientific Innovation and Leadership

Dr. Berkson’s scientific contributions are equally impressive. She co-holds one of the first patents on bioidentical hormones with Dr. Jonathan Wright, MD, and co-published original research on nitric oxide and dialysis with Dr. Moncrief (co-inventor of home dialysis) and Nathan Bryan, PhD. Dr. Moncrief and Berkson co-invented a medication for dialysis and immunosuppressed patients. Most recently, she gave the first global presentation on bioidentical 2-MEO as a hormone molecule to adjunctively assist cancer patients, at the American Ozone Academy in Dallas, May 2025.

A Personal Journey That Shaped a Mission

Dr. Berkson’s passion for hormone health stems from personal experience. Her life was both “ruined” and “saved” by hormones after her mother was prescribed DES during pregnancy. This “model compound of endocrine disruption” led to cancers, battles with blindness, and infertility. However, these challenges drove her to master hormone balance, transforming her personal hormone madness into professional expertise.

Education Meets Entertainment

Today, Dr. Berkson has become a formative voice in functional medicine, traveling globally to teach Continuing Medical Education courses to doctors of all medical genres—especially MDs and NPs. In 2024, she and Dr. David Brownstein co-taught “Everything Hormones” to nearly 300 doctors from 7 countries.

Her unique gift is making complex science accessible and entertaining, partly thanks to her background in stand-up comedy.

As a Diplomat of the American Clinical Board of Nutrition and a certified nutrition specialist (CNS) with a Master’s in Nutrition, Dr. Berkson continues to emphasize healthy life-style basics plus critical health information while continuing to breaking new ground in functional medicine.
