D. J. Donoghue draws on his lifelong concern for animal well-being and his firsthand experience in horse racing to craft The Umwelt of Iwar. While studying at Boston College and the University of Chicago, he developed an enduring interest in the philosophy and economics that shape humankind’s relationship to the natural world. Now retired from a career in business, he hikes the woods of northern Wisconsin with his high-spirited dogs and explores distant trails in close step with the wife he adores, while finding continuing inspiration in the commitment of their three children to animal welfare and environmental stewardship. A longtime supporter of animal advocacy and rescue organizations, he writes with the conviction that the lives of animals are no less significant than our own.
