Catherine V Wolf

​Catherine V Wolf grew up in western Massachusetts, hiking in the Berkshires, the Taconic Mountains, and, when pursuing her Bachelor's at Smith College, the Seven Sisters trail of the Holyoke Range in the Pioneer Valley.

Catherine graduated from Antioch University-New England in 1990 with an MS in environmental education focused on nature study. At first, Catherine’s environmental studies primarily influenced her writing, leading her to express her exploration of habitats, species, and the cycles of the natural world through the written word. After graduation, Catherine moved out to New Mexico to find new mountains to hike and new trails to wander. There she developed science programming at the Santa Fe Children's museum, and met her partner in life. When Catherine and her husband got married, they chose the name Wolf to honor parts of their childhoods and to speak to their passions for natural places and the balance between predator and prey in the wild.

After several years in New Mexico, Catherine and her partner moved back to New England to raise their children. Parallel to her work at home, writing and exploring, Catherine taught grade school for many years in a small day school that abuts conservation land and a neighboring educational farm. Adventuring into these growing places with students—getting dirty, following trails, seeking silence in order to be able to listen to the sounds of forest and farm—has been one of the greatest joys of Catherine’s life.

Now back in the west, in the Cache Valley of Utah, Catherine again enjoys exploring new trails, participating in nature study and education at a local nature center, and spending time with her new grandson.
