L W Galloway

LW Galloway, author of the compelling debut memoir, The Boy Who Wouldn’t Leave, was born in Nottinghamshire in 1984. His earliest moments are framed by political upheaval: his parents' year-long involvement in the Miners’ Strike of 1984/85 against Margaret Thatcher’s government. This struggle resulted in his family facing forced displacement, moving first to Doncaster and then to Manchester’s struggling council estates.

Galloway’s writing draws its power from this authentic, post-industrial working-class experience, vividly chronicling the psychological toll of systemic neglect and economic decline. The memoir directly confronts a traumatic adolescence, focusing intensely on the pressure of being stalked by an obsessive childhood "shadow." After holding this true story in silence for over twenty years, Galloway finally wrote it as an act of reclaiming his narrative and finding his suppressed voice. His work is a raw testament to resilience, the political legacy of working-class families, and the difficult journey toward personal freedom.
