Sharyn Powell

Sharyn has always loved to write stories. From a young age, she would tuck herself away in the corner of a bedroom she shared with two younger siblings, using writing as an escape from the challenges of her day. Surrounded by pillows and a dim light, Sharyn would immerse herself in tales of castles and beautifully decorated rooms, envisioning the peace and tranquility that real life often lacked.

As a teenager, Sharyn’s passion for storytelling continued to flourish. She spent time crafting movie synopses, and composing poems inspired by her own experiences. She even wrote a “treatment” for one of her favorite TV shows, though it was rejected with the claim that her story was similar to one already produced. Sharyn still believes her ideas may have influenced that show’s storyline.

Sharyn’s personal writing took a back seat as she pursued a successful career in Information Technology, rising to directorships within a global law firm. Marriage and motherhood also became priorities, resulting in a hiatus from personal writing that lasted for many years.

In retirement, Sharyn found new ways to express herself through writing. She contributed numerous Yelp reviews, wrote advocacy letters to the White House and local councils, and became involved in community initiatives. However, it wasn’t until she experienced meaningful moments with her great-grandson and his father that she returned to personal writing, inspired to create new manuscripts.

Sharyn felt divinely guided to complete the manuscript for “It’s Okay to Be Kind.” She was unaware of how timely this message would be in the political climate of 2025. Eight months later, her book was finished and released to the public. Sharyn hopes, with God’s guidance, that children and adults will embrace the acts of kindness demonstrated by the book’s eight-year-old protagonist, Marnie. Marnie holds a special place in Sharyn’s heart, and she lovingly refers to her as “my little Marnie.” Sharyn’s wish is that Marnie’s story will inspire readers and help spread the message that “It’s Okay to Be Kind!”
