In his 25-year career as a professional screenwriter, Glenn Gers worked in a wide array of genres and formats, including thriller (FRACTURE, starring Anthony Hopkins and Ryan Gosling), caper-comedy (MAD MONEY, directed by Callie Khouri, starring Diane Keaton, Queen Latifah, Ted Danson and Katie Holmes), family Christmas comedy (OFF SEASON), micro-budget horror (INNER DEMONS), sitcom (INSTANT MOM staff writer) and an audiobook spinoff from the series HOMELAND, read by Damien Lewis.
And that’s just the stuff that got made. He also worked on dozens of professional jobs that didn’t manage to get the Gatsby-esque green light, including sci-fi-action epics, Biblical and literary adaptations, feminist coming-of-age comedies, werewolf-hunter thrillers and rom-coms.
His credits as an indie writer/director include LIKE.SHARE.FOLLOW, (a romantic thriller, “Fatal Attraction” for YouTube) and DISFIGURED (a micro-budget comedy/drama about an unexpected friendship between two women: one obese, the other anorexic.)
Awards for his work include an Emmy, nominations from the Writer’s Guild and PRISM Awards, a special award from the Women’s Film Critic’s Circle, multiple film festival prizes and a Fellowship Grant in Screenwriting from the New York Foundation For The Arts.
As a teacher, he has lectured or mentored at The Austin Film Festival/Screenwriting Conference, Full Sail University, Cinestory, The David Lynch MFA Program, and the AFI Directing Workshop for Women.
His essay, "Go Ask Rosenkrantz" is included in Write Now! Screenwriting, published by Tarcher/Penguin, and his chapter on “Invasion Of The Body Snatchers” is in the anthology The Inspiring World Of Horror.
Now retired from screenwriting, Glenn Gers has been teaching writing on his YouTube channel, Writing For Screens, which hosts 50 valuable 10-minute lessons plus many livestreams -- including a daily series in which he wrote an entire pilot episode for a drama script live online, in 265 hour-long sessions.
(His interview segment, “If You Can’t Answer These 6 Questions You Don’t Have A Story” is the most popular video on the Film Courage channel, with over 4 million views.)
He is also posting new essays and how-to tips on the “Writing For Screens” Substack, and working on a novel.
