Dr. Katherine Hodson

Katherine Hodson qualified as a clinical psychologist in 2005 from University of Oxford, and worked within the NHS for 7 years in general and specialist child and adolescent mental health services, before moving into private practice from 2013. Katherine utilises a number of different therapeutic models in her work with children, adolescents and families, including Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT) and systemic approaches.

Katherine has undertaken a variety of training since qualification, including CFT specific training, a Diploma in advanced practitioner skills in Eating Disorders & training in the Multi dimensional Treatment Foster Care programme (MTFC) in Oregon, USA.

She has a passion in sharing psychological models and therapy to all families and children - in as jargon free way as possible to make sure they are accessible to all. Katherine co-authored her first book "Brighter Futures: a parents' guide to raising happy, confident children in the primary years" in 2018. She has now completed "The Compassionate Parenting Workbook" with her colleague Dr Jen Swanston, aiming to help all parents learn more about CFT, so they can practically apply this approach both for themselves when having to manage the often demanding role of parenting, and to help their children develop a more compassionate inner voice themselves. Katherine is now actively involved in a variety of professional and parenting training to further share the CFT model for children and adolescents.
