Richard Altman

Richard Altman is the author and founder of The Creative Life Project, a comprehensive guide and framework for Creative Self Development that helps individuals discover, develop, and express their creative potential throughout life. A lifelong creator, educator, and innovator, Altman’s work bridges art, education, business, and nonprofit development to reveal how creativity functions as the essential human trait that empowers people to navigate change, build purpose, and live with intention.

Throughout his career, Altman has explored how creativity and technology intersect to shape learning, leadership, and organizational culture. As CEO of Communication Design Inc., he pioneered interactive educational media and developed the foundational technology platform for Educational Management Group, which became a national leader in distance learning and was later acquired by Paramount and Simon & Schuster. He has consulted with organizations ranging from the YWCA of the U.S.A. on its Leadership and Professional Development Center to community health initiatives, applying creativity as a strategic tool for innovation and impact.

As an artist, Altman has served as both creative consultant and exhibitor at institutions including the Phoenix Art Museum and the Scottsdale Center for the Arts, exploring creativity’s role as a bridge between science, design, and human experience. His background in art, education, and biological sciences, combined with early teaching experience in high school biology and later work at Arizona State University’s College of Architecture, shaped his systems-thinking approach to creativity, connecting biological principles to design, technology, and organizational innovation.

Through The Creative Life Project, Altman introduces a functional definition of creativity that positions it as a universal life skill rather than an artistic talent, along with the Creative Self Development Framework, a practical pathway for transforming creative potential into meaningful expression. He lives and works in Arizona, where he continues to guide individuals and organizations in developing their creative capacity.
