Matthew Norton is the founder of the Memusi Foundation, a UK-registered charity (1133371) that builds schools, empowers communities, and creates opportunities for children living in poverty across Kenya. What began nearly twenty years ago with a handful of pencils has since grown into a movement that has built schools, supported tens of thousands of children, served millions of meals, and inspired countless people to believe that ordinary individuals can make extraordinary change.
Driven by a deep belief in dignity-first development and the power of education, Matthew has balanced his work with Memusi alongside a full-time career, proving that compassion and action can go hand in hand. His story has been featured by organisations such as Good News Shared, Fundraising UK, and across LinkedIn, where his reflections on hope, leadership, and humanity reach a global audience. Matthew was also awarded a Points of Light Award for services to voluntary work.
In his debut book, An Ordinary Story: From a Pencil to a Movement, Matthew shares the personal journey behind the charity’s creation - filled with setbacks, faith, and moments of profound human connection. He writes not as a hero, but as an ordinary person who dared to believe that small acts of kindness can spark lasting change.
When not working or travelling between the UK and Kenya, Matthew enjoys spending time with his family, running, and exploring new ideas that bring communities together.
