Jason M. Blazakis

Jason M. Blazakis is Professor of the Practice at the Middlebury Institute of International Studies and Executive Director of the Center on Terrorism, Extremism, and Counterterrorism (CTEC). A former U.S. government official, he led counterterrorism finance and sanctions policy, working across the United Nations, allied governments, and the private sector to disrupt terrorist and criminal networks. He is also a former member of the U.S. Intelligence Community. Jason writes for scholarly and public audiences, blending practitioner insight with accessible prose. His nonfiction covers illicit finance, sanctions, and extremist movements. At Middlebury, he teaches courses on economic statecraft, threat financing, and intelligence, mentoring students who pursue careers in public service, law, and industry. A frequent media commentator, he appears on NPR and contributes op-eds. He lives on the U.S. East Coast, where he divides his time between teaching, writing, and researching a broad range of national security issues.
