Hans Aschenbach

Hans Aschenbach is an American novelist, opera singer, and conductor whose career has taken him to some of the world’s leading stages, including the Metropolitan Opera, Carnegie Hall, English National Opera, the Sydney Opera House, Teatro San Carlo and La Scala. Trained in the classical arts, his life’s work has been devoted to exploring the intersection of discipline, emotion, and truth—qualities that now inform his fiction.

His debut novel, Inside the Grapevine, set in 1940s Napa Valley, examines the moral tension between loyalty and justice during World War II, intertwining the lives of vineyard workers, prisoners, and families bound by rumor and resilience. Drawing from his American roots and his years living abroad, Aschenbach writes with a global sensibility grounded in historical realism and human empathy.

Now based in Europe, he continues to balance his musical and literary pursuits, crafting stories that echo the same passion, rhythm, and emotional depth that have defined his work on the world’s great stages.
