Dr. Jon McFarland (he/him) is originally from Hawaii where he earned his B.Ed. and M.A. from the University of Hawai’i, Mānoa and received his doctorate in Educational Leadership from California Lutheran University. He has over thirty years of teaching experience and has taught at multiple levels of education. He is currently an Associate Professor of Teacher Education at California State University, Stanislaus, where he teaches courses on educational diversity and equity for marginalized populations of students and how to best serve English learners in K-12 schools.
His research interests include the utilization of gamification in academic settings, issues of student motivation and engagement, effective teaching methods for English learners, and matters of equity and inclusion in secondary schools. As part of his service to the community, he is also the Executive Director of the non-profit organization, Central Valley Pride, with which he conducts professional development for K-20 educators on best practices serving LGBTQ+ youth.
