Sharon Steinberg

Dr. Sharon Steinberg, PhD in Epidemiology with a Biostatistics major, is a senior lecturer at the Kaye Academic College of Education and a team member at the college resilience center, with an expertise in quantitative and qualitative research methods. I teach these subjects. My research focuses on narratives, conflict, and inclusive classrooms. I am dedicated to promoting coexistence especially in my college. I live in the Negev region of Israel. I wrote my first book with my co-authors in 2022, because I was interested in understanding how have the ongoing wars affected the lives of people who lived in that reality. From my personal experience, during the 2014 Gaza War (Protective Edge), that lasted 51 days, I commuted from the Negev to work at Tel Aviv, the center of the country, and had to stay home for the first 3 weeks. When I returned to work, the train took much longer because it almost stopped each time there was a missile alert. I ended up working less hours, earning less money while I was out of my home for more hours with two young children. Shortly after, I made a career change because of that, because I wanted to live closer to work. I love my career. This personal experience was my personal drive to gain a deeper understanding of life closer to the border. After October 7 2023, we wanted to understand what happened to the people that we interviewed on that black Saturday, and since then. Many wanted to tell their story again. The second book (2025) includes the results of the comparison of the research results from both time periods. It includes videos that citizens posted before and after October 7 2023. It includes deep literature reviews and results about trauma, coping and resilience, hope, meaning making and identity, patriotism and Zionism, perceptions about the Gazans, and thoughts about the future.
