Patrick Duffy

Patrick Duffy is an organisation leader turned organisational consultant, adviser, and writer. Across three decades in public, private, and nonprofit settings, one question kept resurfacing for him: how do organisations actually work, and what can we do to make them work better?

That question sent him back to university for research in organisational research. He specialised in the relationship between structure and people, and developed practical methods for interpreting, and measuring, how an organisation functions (or doesn't), from diagnostic frameworks to evidence‑led metrics that leaders and practitioners can actually use. Consulting followed, then writing.

Patrick’s work is deliberately interdisciplinary. Organisational studies touches social psychology, political science, philosophy, and the hard sciences, not to mention business; his writing braids these threads into clear, usable guidance and insights. His primary aim with writing is to support his consulting and advisory work where theory, practice and evidence add value, yet each publication acts as a stand-alone book.

Having caught the bug for cross‑disciplinary learning, he now writes across specialist business domains, particularly organisation design and development. He has more recently ventured into mainstream, more as hobby than survival: current and social affairs, politics, and philosophy. He aims to explore subjects or issues of the day, make them accessible without dumbing them down, and with a north star that’s simple: the question you ask is the journey you follow.

An alumnus of the London School of Economics, Cardiff University, Leicester University, Bangor University, and Universidad Católica San Antonio de Murcia, Patrick holds postgraduate degrees spanning politics, business, humanities, philosophy, and science.

Patrick was born in Ireland and has lived the greater portion of his life in the UK, the UAE, and the Philippines. He is the proud father of three children.

From time to time, the older craft of leadership needs oiling. When organisations hit turbulence or need a short, sharp infusion of change and new thinking, Patrick can step in as an interim adviser or hands‑on leader, pairing seasoned experience with rigorous, evidence‑based methods.
