Traci Madden

Steve and Traci Madden are a husband-and-wife storytelling team whose work celebrates the people, places, and promises of Appalachia. Together they write across genres—from cozy, slightly spooky picture books to heartfelt memoir—always with a campfire’s warmth and a front-porch sense of welcome.

Their children’s stories (including Where’s My Big Toe? and The Mystery of the Golden Arm) invite kids to giggle, gasp, and shout along, while quietly learning about courage, kindness, and the rich traditions of mountain life. Their nonfiction/memoir, My Appalachian Roots, gathers family memories, faith, and regional folklore into an intimate portrait of a place where love and grit go hand in hand.

When they’re not drafting new pages, Steve and Traci are listening for the next story—at church potlucks, on winding back roads, and under starlit skies. They believe stories are best told slowly, with laughter, gasps, and just the right amount of shivers.
