William H. Robinson

William H. Robinson is an internationally acclaimed art historian, scholar, museum curator, and university professor. Born in Châteauroux, France, he received his doctorate in art history from Case Western University in 1988 and a certificate in Spanish language studies from the Universitat de Barcelona, Instituto Estudios Hispánicos, in 2001. In November 2023, after nearly thirty-eight years of distinguished curatorial work, he retired from his position as Senior Curator of Modern European Art at the Cleveland Museum of Art and Adjunct Professor of Art History at Case Western Reserve University. He is currently preparing several forthcoming publications and remains actively engaged in the international art world.

Robinson is known for his innovative blending of art history with larger social and cultural issues. A passionate advocate for museums as centers of learning and civic engagement, he served as a grant reviewer and panelist for the National Endowment of the Arts, the National Endowment for the Humanities, the Institute for Museum and Library Services, and the Ohio Arts Council. He served four years as chairman of NEA-NEH domestic indemnity program and three years as President of Ohio Museums Association. He has traveled extensively in the United States and Europe, presented papers at scholarly conferences, and appeared in numerous television and radio interviews, including programs on CBS Sunday Morning, the History Channel, PBS (WVIZ), and NPR (WCPN). He enjoys cooking and is an avid dancer of Argentine Tango.
