Sonya M. Thompson

Sonya Thompson currently works at the University of Kentucky’s Center on Drug and Alcohol Research, where she is a Clinician and Targeted Assessment Specialist in McCracken County. She received herBachelor of Science Degree from Murray State University and a Master’s degree from the University of Central Missouri. Her body of work includes addressing the needs of women and other diverse populations in the areas of substance abuse, domestic violence, and mental health. She also serves as adjunct faculty for West Kentucky Community. She is a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated. Her favorite motto is “Live Life to the Fullest and Make a Difference along the Way!” She has received awards from the NAACP, the Power of One award, the University of Kentucky’s Teacher Who Made a Difference Award twice, being honored by her students as making a positive impact on their lives, the Outstanding Young Church Woman Award, and various other educational, leadership, and community awards including an appearance on the Today Show for International Women’s Day in 2021. She recently wrote and self-published her first devotional guide in 2024, titled “When God Says, Be Still!” She is a firm believer that “your passion will lead you to your purpose!” Her purpose, she believes, is to inspire others to live life to the fullest while keeping God as the focus.
