Giorgio Cingolani

Giorgio Cingolani is a contemporary historian who has devoted his research to topics in 20th-century European political, social and economic history.

In the 1990s, he focused in particular on the history of neo-fascist terrorism in Italy and the period known as the Years of Lead. Since the early 2000s, his interest has turned to the history of the Balkans and the former Yugoslavia. He has taught Balkan history at the Giorgio Fuà Faculty of Economics at the Polytechnic University of Marche.

Since 2012, his research has focused mainly on economic history. At the same faculty, he has taught industrial and consumer history and banking and insurance history as an adjunct professor. At the same time, he has written more popular works, including Adriatico. Storie di mare e di costa (Adriatic: Ten Stories of the Sea and Shore), which has also been translated into English.

In addition to his academic and editorial activities, Giorgio Cingolani is active in the field of human rights. He has taken part in several election observation missions with the OSCE, notably in Montenegro (2008), Bosnia and Herzegovina (2012) and Albania (2013).
