Joni Parker Thomas survived a harrowing divorce, which lasted 7.5 years in an Oklahoma family court. Joni grew up in a loving family, and she never expected to be a victim of domestic violence. Although she had a protective order against her abusive husband for 4.5 years, it was a ghastly uphill battle to keep herself and her children safe. Oklahoma has a dark undercurrent of domestic violence where the constitutional due process rights of victims are trampled. In 2024 the state was rated 1st for domestic violence and 2nd for intimate partner murder. In writing Unbreakable: Rising Above an Abusive Marriage, Joni wanted to help other women find their inner strength to withstand tactics used by domestic abusers, attorneys representing abusive men, and a court system that has bias and misogyny against women. Joni survived it, and now is living free from abuse with her two children.
