Hillary Parkhouse, PhD, is an associate professor of education at Virginia Commonwealth University, where she teaches courses on curriculum, multilingual learners, and teacher education. Her research focuses on democratic citizenship education, teacher education, global education, immigration, and research-practice partnerships. These interests stem from her experiences teaching high school social studies, literature, and English to Speakers of Other Languages in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic and the Washington Heights neighborhood of New York City.

She has co-authored and co-edited several books including Becoming a Globally Competent Teacher (2019, ASCD), Navigating Issues of Equity in Schools Through Research-Practice Partnerships: Stories From the Field (2025, Routledge), and a forthcoming textbook, Foundations of Education: American Schooling for the Common Good (Bloomsbury). When not writing, she enjoys cooking, hiking, camping, and exploring new places with her husband and two children.
