George Bell co-founded JACK, a men's publication and platform, after nearly losing his own life to the silence that masculinity demands.
Just over a decade ago, he was struggling so badly that he was making plans to take his own life, but his sense of what it meant to "be a man" stopped him from asking for help. To make it through, he had to change his relationship with masculinity itself.
Since then, he's spent over ten years working in the mental health space, advocating for the conversations men are told to keep silent about. But he kept seeing the same problems: men still struggling, still silent, still trapped by outdated ideas of what masculinity should be.
‘Be a Man About It: Building a healthier idea of masculinity’ is the result of 40+ conversations with men and experts, combined with his own reckoning with what masculinity can be when we stop defining it by what we're not allowed to feel.
