A.J. has also written a Biblical study guide (Bible 101, 102, and 103) as Nathan Cross and a historical fiction series as Ashur James. He's also written a personal memoir under Ashur James.
The Dreamfire Series — beginning with The Ash of Exile and The Flames of Silence, and culminating here in The Maze — reflects his lifelong fascination with the boundaries between illusion and truth, memory and eternity.
Outside of fiction, Ashur James is the pen name of Matthew Dunbar, a writer and scholar of psychology with a Master’s in positive psychology and a PhD in progress. His work is shaped by his service in the military, his academic research, and his passion for helping others find meaning and resilience in a complicated world.
When he’s not writing, Matthew enjoys time with his wife, four children, and four dogs — each of whom, in their own way, reminds him that love and laughter are the truest forms of survival.
