Chris McKenna

Chris McKenna is an award-winning author, professional photographer, scuba diving instructor, and storyteller who writes across generations—from heartwarming children’s adventures to thoughtful adult fiction and practical nonfiction.

Inspired by the birth of his granddaughter, Chris began creating imaginative stories that spark curiosity, courage, and kindness in young readers. His children's books, including "Olivia Mae and Her Scuba Diving Day" and the multi-award-winning "Captain Olivia and the Treasure of Kindness", celebrate empathy, exploration, and the power of character. Captain Olivia received two literary awards and was named a finalist in a third national competition.

In his adult debut, "Permanent Admit: A Tale from the Avalon", Chris explores darker, reflective themes of memory, identity, and unseen realities—revealing his range as a writer unafraid to venture into deeper waters.

Chris is also an underwater photographer, filmmaker, FAA-certified drone pilot, and scuba diving instructor. Drawing on years of experience beneath the surface, he shares his passion for the underwater world in "Foundations in Underwater Photography: An Introduction to Photography Below the Waves".

When he’s not writing, Chris works as a Financial Analyst in the aerospace industry and lives in Washington with his wife of more than three decades. Whether crafting stories for children, adults, or photographers, he believes the most meaningful journeys are the ones that change us.
