Paul Catanzaro

Paul Catanzaro is a Professor of Forest Ecology and Conservation at the University of Massachusetts. He serves as the State Extension Forester and is the co-Director of the Family Forest Research Center, a partnership of UMass and the USDA Forest Service. For more than 25 years, Paul has worked to help inform the decisions of forest landowners.

Paul earned a B.A. in Cultural Anthropology from Hamilton College, an M.S. in Sustainable Systems from Slippery Rock University, and a second M.S. in Silviculture from SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry.

He lives on a homestead in western Massachusetts with his family where they keep pigs, chickens, and bees, and tend their gardens, orchard, berries, and mushrooms. When not thinking about forest landowners and the importance of dead wood in our forests, Paul enjoys canoeing, sailing his sunfish, cross-country skiing, and listening to the Grateful Dead.
