Gard L Little

Gard Little was born in New York City, in 1961. He grew up in a home overflowing with books

and learned to love reading by watching how much enjoyment his mom got from reading

mysteries. Gard’s memories of Maurice Sendak’s pictures and Else Holmelund Minarik’s words

from Little Bear stuck and reminded him, well beyond childhood, of the beauty and power of

children’s books. Raising three children in Lexington, Massachusetts, he read to them nightly

hoping his love of books would be carried forward. While Gard is a late-blooming author he has

encapsulated elements of his favorite children’s books in Out of the Mouth, with the hope his

first work meets the dual goals of being entertaining and perfectly timed to be the last book

read as your child gently falls asleep
