Sam Costanzo (Duquesne University '72) is a proud alumnus whose passion for rekindling football at Duquesne first ignited nearly six decades ago. His instrumental leadership led to the revival of football in 1969—after a 19-year hiatus at the university —guiding the team through all administrative facets, from hiring coaches to scheduling games and collaborating with both alumni and administration. Under Sam’s guidance and with the trusted support of his peers from St. Martin’s 13th Floor and so many key individuals, the program celebrated a national club football championship in just its fifth season in 1973.

Sam’s enduring connection to his alma mater has only deepened over the years. He has served with distinction as Vice Chair of the Board of Directors and contributed his expertise across key committees—including Executive, Advancement, Enrollment, and Athletics—shaping strategic vision and governance in both university athletics and broader institutional priorities. His dedication has not gone unnoticed: Sam has been inducted into the Duquesne University Athletics Hall of Fame in the “Builder” category and the Century Club, tributes to his foundational role and lasting impact on the university’s football program. He has also established the Costanzo Family Scholarship for deserving Duquesne students.
