Julian Robertson is a children’s author born and raised in Glasgow. His stories are rooted in the working-class neighbourhoods where he grew up, on the city’s eastern edges, in the new towns, and in places that rarely make it into films or books.
He draws inspiration from the children’s books by Frank Cottrell Boyce and the grownup ones by Irvine Welsh. Julian’s stories come out a bit mad, but always full of heart.
His debut novel, Sandra (short for “Sentient, Autonomous, Nonhuman, Domestic, Robot Assistant”), is a middle-grade sci-fi adventure with a Glaswegian twist. Think Black Mirror for kids, but with wide robots and grannies in mech suits. If you’re looking for Scottish adventures packed with mayhem, comedy, and imagination then his books are for you.
