Katie Bosch

Katie Bosch is a retired Emergency Department physician who finally found time to trade in her scrubs to pursue her lifelong dream of writing a children's book.

The idea for her story came in a most unexpected way, when a real black bear broke into her small town's local chocolate shop, eating 50 pounds of sugar while being recorded on a security video. This was an event too sweet not to share.

While the real bear was safely relocated, Katie imagined what might happen if the bear had been a hungry mama with two young cubs, along with a kind National Park ranger who asked her to find healthy food in nature rather than returning to that shop.

Katie's fascination with bears began in the 1970s on a family camping trip to Yosemite. Open garbage dumps, where bears routinely found human food, had been closed. Two bears ransacked the family's campsite searching for snacks - a wild memory that has stayed with her ever since.

Today Katie lives with her husband and their schnoodle, Wrigley, in northern Michigan right next to Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. When she isn't writing she enjoys hiking and biking, watching the seasons change over Lake Michigan, along with spending time with her first grandchild.
