Serge Mac (Srdjan Macanovic), known to many as Dr Mac, is an AWARD WINNING author a medical doctor and writer whose life journey bridges war-torn Sarajevo, the lecture halls of Cambridge, and a dedicated career in medicine across the UK and Australia.
I’m proud to share that Bridge Between Two Worlds has been awarded 🥈 Second Prize at the Dragonfly Book Awards 2025, Gold Winner Readers`Choice Book Awards 2025, and received a 5 Star Review by Readers' Favourite in 2025.
Born and raised in Sarajevo, his formative years were shaped by both the joys of community and the devastation of conflict. Forced to flee during the siege of Sarajevo, he rebuilt his life through perseverance, education, and an unyielding belief in the power of healing. His pursuit of knowledge led him to Cambridge University, where he deepened his medical training and forged lifelong friendships.
Over more than three decades as a general practitioner, Dr Mac has worked tirelessly with families, refugees, and vulnerable communities. He has also led addiction recovery initiatives, contributed to medical research, and advocated for holistic, compassionate care. Outside his profession, he finds joy in running, adventure—most notably climbing Mount Kilimanjaro—and family life on the Gold Coast of Australia, where he lives with his wife Dijana, their children, and their dog Luna.
Bridge Between Two Worlds is his debut memoir, a testament to resilience, hope, and the enduring capacity of the human spirit to overcome adversity and build anew.
