Stephen G Rae

Stephen G. Rae, alias the Bard of Cumberland is a writer on folklore and Druid mythology. He lives in Cumbria, just on the edge of the Lake District National Park, and regularly writes on the folklore of northern England and southern Scotland for regional publications. His Haiku poetry has been reproduced in numerous books and anthologies, and his "often I stop and look back" was published in 2024.

Stephen was born in Ayrshire, Scotland and raised on a tradition of family folk-lore from Ayrshire, Galloway and Ireland; tales of elf and fairie, the merfolk, brownies and the Irish banshee.

His "Folklore of the Lake District", and "Boggarts, Brownies, Hobs and their Goblin Kin; an encyclopedia of world folklore" were both published in 2025. In 2026, "Folklore of Scotland: Faerie Folk and Folk Horror".

Stephen is a contemporary and folk artist, illustrator, and indie filmmaker making short films inspired by folklore and mythology. He has appeared in film, television, and on radio. You can Follow him on most social media platforms.
