James Snow is a retired Sergeant with the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department, where he served more than 28.5 years in law enforcement, including assignments in patrol, gangs, narcotics, SWAT, traffic, collision investigation, training, and executive leadership. Throughout his career, he was known not only for leading high-performing teams but also for developing leaders, mentoring new deputies, and building programs that emphasized professionalism, accountability, and service.
Following retirement, James turned his focus to a new mission: helping others navigate life's major transitions with purpose. His first book, The Pivot: A Guide to Moving Forward When the Mission Changes, explores the challenges of identity, resilience, and reinvention after career-ending events, retirement, injury, or other significant life changes. The book has resonated with first responders, veterans, business leaders, and anyone facing a season of unexpected change.
On August 1, 2026, James will release his second book, The Quiet Professional: Leadership, Excellence, and the Art of the Pivot. The book explores the timeless principles of servant leadership, disciplined decision-making, humility, and excellence, offering practical lessons for leaders in every profession who seek to build influence through character rather than title.
In addition to writing and speaking on leadership, resilience, and personal transformation, James is a founding member of The Craftsman Project, a nonprofit initiative dedicated to preserving traditional craftsmanship while providing veterans, first responders, and young people with opportunities to build practical skills, confidence, and renewed purpose through woodworking. The organization is built on the belief that craftsmanship develops not only beautiful work but also stronger people and stronger communities.
An accomplished furniture maker and founder of Snow Woodworks, James specializes in Arts & Crafts and Greene & Greene-inspired furniture, blending traditional craftsmanship with modern technology. His work reflects the same principles that have guided his leadership career: excellence, patience, integrity, and leaving a lasting legacy.
James lives in Southern California with his wife, where they are raising their granddaughter and continue to invest in family, service, craftsmanship, and helping others find purpose beyond their previous mission.
