Roland Zerpe

Roland grew up in Märsta, on the northern outskirts of Greater Stockholm. As the seat of Sigtuna Municipality — a region steeped in Viking Age heritage — Märsta blends modern suburban life with deep historical roots. From an early age, Roland was surrounded by tangible remnants of pre-Christian Scandinavian culture: ancient runestones, evocative place names, and archaeological traces of the Viking Age. These impressions sparked a quiet fascination that deepened over time. As a teenager, he encountered a reference to Stav, igniting a lifelong journey of exploration and practice.

After decades of study under the inheritor of the Stav tradition, Roland published the original Swedish edition of Stav in 2021. The second, expanded edition was released in English in 2025, marking the first comprehensive presentation of Stav ever published for a wider international audience. In this work, Roland reveals aspects of the tradition that have never been publicly shared before, blending practical insight with rigorous research into Stav, Norse mythology, runes, and other related topics.

His writing offers readers a grounded and accessible perspective — one that honors the depth of the tradition while making it approachable for modern audiences. Roland is passionate about presenting Stav in a correct and meaningful way, inviting others to explore the tradition and discover its relevance for themselves.
